James Hillman’s Betrayal
5 x 1.5-2 hrs fortnightly sessions
In this piercing chapter in a short collection called “Loose Ends”, the post-Jungian James Hillman looks at the relation between trust and betrayal found in the masculine archetype. This mixed study group (for men and women) gives you the space for a deep emotional dive into the betrayals you have lived through in your life, or with men, or that you have observed between men and their social circles.
The question of ‘why do men betray?’ does not mean that women do not betray. But Hillman focuses on archetypal symbols that illustrate how men betray men, and more specifically, how fathers betray sons. Yet, in the truth of betrayal, he helps us to understand where we can find genuine and authentic trust. The focus is a practical application of Hillman’s paper on our lives.

This study group is a general introduction to the foundation of psychotherapy and psychological knowledge – the conflict between our ego and our unconscious contents. It provides an overview from which we can go deeper once we have grasped the fundamentals of the split in the mind of modern humankind which is being accelerated by developments in society today. It also allows us to explore our own ego-unconscious conflicts.
