Misogyny & Masculinity

In contrast to attempts that promote positive psychologies as a solution for masculinity, this channel attempts to dismantle the psychological structures of violence, destruction and death that can become a compulsion in the male psyche, specifically, in heterosexual men.In Carl Jung's language, it is an analysis of the masculine shadow.
This video begins the need to see misogyny as something that can only be understood by men. Feminism, culture, education and the law have failed to stop male violence in general and misogyny in particular. It is men's responsibility to engage in a self-confrontation of their psychological need for death and destruction - in misogyny, where the object of that need is a women.
The psychological challenge and project is: can there be a psychological form of masculinity outside sex, aggression and women?

Misogyny and masculinity: general introduction

Why do heterosexual men deny and dismiss our misogyny?
In this video, Previn Karian begins his outline of the psychoanalytic modelling he will be using to dissect the psychology of misogyny in men. In order to understand the psychological roots of misogyny and its rejection by men, the primary model of mind is the distinction between the Ego and the Unconscious as two separate functions. The Unconscious contains our repressed memories, feelings, thoughts and desires which are split off from out conscious rational functioning. The Unconscious is the realm of Carl Jung's "Shadow".
Once seen as the conflict between the Ego and the contents of the Unconscious mind, men can begin the difficult task of their psychological self-confrontation. This is not natural for heterosexual men, and requires immense moral courage to do so. The psychological modelling put forwards here sits under our gender stereotyping and the biological neuro-wiring of men, and that has been missed in gender, neuroscience and evolutionary psychology studies.

Misogyny and Jung's Shadow: introduction to the unconscious mind

Is there a masculinity crisis in the West? How do men respond to it?
In this video, Previn Karian looks at three responses to the mental health and existential crisis in the West that is appearing on the edges of our public awareness and is spilling out into our social media debates focused on heterosexual masculinity. All three responses attempt to find positive solutions that reject or avoid any psychology of the shadow formulated by Carl Jung, discussed in the previous video.
The three models to solve the masculinity crisis are: the military model (be tough), the socio-economic model (be successful), and a cognitive-spiritual model (rational thought and meditation). Each solution has popular representations in violent sports such as MMA or Andrew Tate/Conor McGregor, and proponents of success and meditation such as Scott Galloway and Alok Kanojia (Dr K). None of these models discuss the shadow side of masculinity and masculine psychology.
Previn then introduces the shadow into each model to give a more psychologically accurate diagnosis of the problem of heterosexual male psychology. This prepares the ground for the following videos that apply shadow psychology from psychoanalysis to the problem of masculinity.

Masculinity Without Jung's Shadow

How can we model the shadow psychology of heterosexual men in misogyny? Do such models help to understand a fundamental problem in the psychological structure of masculinity that repeats itself throughout history, cultures and nations, and across misogyny, racism and fascism?
Continuing his outline of shadow psychology that is kept out of sight of ego functioning in men, Previn Karian opens up his modelling of Jung's inferiority complex in "Psychological Types", while leaving the sadistic and masochistic drives from Freud for the follow up video to this one.
Men are gender stereotyped and bio-psychologically wired to achieve superiority and success to make sense of our existence and our mortality in the face of death. But psychologically, this acts as a defence against the opposite of inferiority. Buried out of sight of our ego functioning, pushed down into our unconscious shadow contents, men carry terror, depression and rage at our actual powerlessness and incomprehension of life. This repressed inferiority at our existence is blocked from awareness by a search for superiority that never satisfies or succeeds in bringing peace.
Stepping into detail of men's psychological self-confrontation, Karian looks at how superiority is the clue to men's psychological inferiority, the compulsive dependencies on women for our identity, the destructiveness of our fantasies, all of which are waiting to erupt individually and collectively as men. Internal and external misogyny are introduced, but more fully worked through via Freud. The collective dimension of psychological inferiority is highlighted in the destructiveness towards women in cultural and political practices in both East and West, and as a compulsion of men throughout time. The only logical conclusion is that women activate the inferiority of men - psychologically.
Reframing misogyny as the psychological content of a general inferiority complex, leaves room for two drives from Freud - the sadistic drive and the masochistic drive - that can then be combined for a better understanding of misogyny as a structural part of masculine psychology.

Jung's Inferiority Complex in Misogyny

Following on from the previous series of videos on the psychoanalytic model of mind and inferiority in Carl Jung, Previn Karian opens up more content on the shadow psychology of heterosexual men. This video introduces Sigmund Freud's two drives of sadism and masochism that lie alongside inferiority as psychological determinants in men. It begins with the libertine philosophy of the Marquis de Sade, fast forwards through Darwin to the early European sexologists that Freud responded to, and explains how women become psychological objects that have to gratify the sadistic drive in men.
The difference between emotions, memories, desires and the two drives that erupt according to our individual narratives are explained diagrammatically as the shadow space of the unconscious. The works of Havelock Ellis, Albert Moll and Richard Von Krafft-Ebbing are also discussed to show how sexuality and sexual identity became a psychological location rather than a biological act for reproduction. Freud's development of their studies from embryology and literature established that we possess psychological drives in search of objects to satisfy us. For heterosexual men, women are that object. They can connect to either a sadistic or a masochistic drive.
While Part 1 outlines the psychoanalytic model that explains sadistic misogyny, Part 2 develops the practical application of this model for our contemporary times.

Freud's Two Drives: Sadistic Misogyny Part 1

Following the general model of mind in Freud that locates two psychological drives working in our unconscious mental space in Part 1, this video shows the practical application and outworking of the sadistic drive in misogyny that erupts within heterosexual men.
An outline of Freud's papers for further research is presented, along with a distinction between BDSM or kink sex and sadistic misogyny acts. The differences between feminism, sociology, social anthropology and psychoanalysis are explored diagrammatically to show their potential for integration. A brief note on Freud's thoughts about the sublimation of the sadistic drive is also presented.
This is then followed by examples of how sadistic misogyny is already occupying the space of AI is worked through a recent publication by Laura Bates' "The New Age of Sexism". Working through her chapter titles, it becomes clear that Freud's sadistic drive can be seen in the routine harassment, sexual threats and abusive behaviour that heterosexual men are unconsciously compelled to act out towards women. Sadistic misogyny is also illustrated in forensic criminal actions which Bates does not mention. This pave the way for the masochistic drive in the following videos which is heterosexual men's attempt to reject sadism, but with tragic consequences for them.

Freud's Two Drives: Sadistic Misogyny Part 2

“We have created a stage that is set up for the masochistic drive.”
In this ground breaking video, Previn Karian explores the Freudian drive of masochism that dominates the mass majority of heterosexual men in societies, and how this creates an internal resentment, hate and alienation from women even though it started with a belief that we loved them. This is described as masochistic misogyny. The worship, devotion, longing and sacrifices to keep women close to us inflict huge mental pain and emotional suffering that destroys the inner life of men, resulting in a retaliation against women that is sadistic, or an inability to be sadistic, which leads to depression, self-sabotage, addictions and suicidal ideation. Throughout this, dependency on women for our life continues to dominate the psychology of masochistic men.
In understanding such behaviour as a masochistic drive, Karian explains the pleasure that heterosexual men get from the torment of women, and the moral superiority that they feel in assaulting themselves psychologically to please them and keep them. This requires men to find women who will inflict masochistic punishment and pain on them. Men create a psychological stage where women become objects that torment them.
This video identifies the psychological layers of masochism that live in men’s unconscious mental spaces which lead to disastrous relationship choices and the constant blaming of women (the misandry claim), while claiming to be righteous and morally superior to them, and the victims of their injustice. However, such dependency on women for life reflects a childhood binding to our mothers, which is also opened out here.
This video sets up the general principles for a more practical analysis of masochism in the following Part 2 video.

Freud's Two Drives: Masochistic Misogyny, Mothers, Misandry (Part 1)

Continuing the deep dive into the masochistic "nice guy" syndrome that turns misogynistic, Previn Karian develops his work with Freud but then bolts on the Jungian Erich Neumann to look at the archetypal force of the feminine that layers onto the masochistic drive. This unique dovetailing of Freud-Jung shows how unnecessary the conflicts in methodology have been.
Freud's main theme of masochism as "sadism turned inwards" is used to explain the psychological self-alienation of men that emanates from our relationship with our mothers. The "experience of dissimilarity" from our mothers that Neumann then develops shows how deeply wounded masochistic heterosexual men are in society and in relationships with women.
Yet, for both Freud and Neumann, there can be no blame of either mothers or women when the masochistic collapse is the responsibility of men's confrontation with their shadows. Neither mothers nor women can rescue men. Neumann argues that in "the dragon" that lives in men's unconscious mental space, a confrontation with it requires heterosexual men to have a mind - a psychological mind.
There are two questions that this analysis raises:
1) What is the image of the mother that lives in the psyche of heterosexual men and in their unconscious mental space.
2) Can there be a masculinity without sex, aggression, inferiority, sadism or masochism?
