Psychosocial Models

The launch announcement video for the Empty Chair Online project (TEC Online) to set up discussion groups, study groups and online courses that apply models of psychotherapy to your everyday and professional life.
Following the previous video on "Masochism, Mothers and Misandry", it was clear that there were so many individual variations to the modelling that it would be impossible to make videos that cover them all. Furthermore, people may either want support given what comes up for them, or a space to explore the topics on this channel further.
TEC Online is a project to set up discussion groups, study groups and online courses that deepen the personal impact of the videos on this channel, as well as accelerate your psychological knowledge and analysis of yourself and others. To watch the introductory videos and take part in shaping the discussion groups and study groups, please click to join the Facebook group here for free:

If you don't use social media, and just want to support this channel and the project, please consider making a low cost monthly membership donation which will alert you to EVERY video upload as well as activities that you can join on TEC Online:

The website also contains the introductory videos from the Facebook group for you to watch. You can use the contact form to message me directly.
Looking forward to more direct interactions with you - and wishing you well on your psychological journey!

TEC Membership and Online Project Launch

While scholars and "critical" activists are busy "debunking" Freud by turning to his early theories of sexuality and his dated attitudes towards women, what are we missing in our understanding of misogyny, racism and fascism?
In this psychosocial playlist, Previn Karian outlines a history of Freud's contribution that crucially stood in opposition to the psychiatric institutions that reduced the human mind and mental health issues to the chemical brain that required chemical solutions. The role of Wundt in experimental psychology that led to Kraepelin's cluster analysis of behaviours is contrasted with the founder of all the talking therapies: Joseph Breuer and the case of Anna O (Bertha Pappenheim). Breuer triggered Freud's 40 year pursuit of the unconscious mind in conflict with the ego, and its journey through individual analysis, clinical technique, and group and social psychology is traced.
It is the discovery of the death drive (through Sabina Spielrein) and its extension into social organisation that makes Freud's analytic approach electrically relevant to the rising aggression and destruction of our times.
